HP announced today thatVOO, the cable internet provider for the Walloon and Brussels regions, has boosted the speed and reliability of its triple play telephony and digital television services withHP Networking.
To improve efficiency, save space and reduce costs, VOO is moving its 13 data centers into two buildings. As part of the consolidation, the company has adopted a dual vendor networking strategy, replacing the data center layer of its network infrastructure with HP FlexFabricswitches. Based on open industry standards, the HP switches interoperate seamlessly with legacy Cisco switches at the network edge to deliver the highest levels of IT availability while reducing total cost of ownership.
"To enable us to deliver new high-speed services, we need a highly-available network capable of supporting business-critical applications like video on-demand, voice over IP and SAP," says Alexandre Goffard, Head of Information Security and IT Network, VOO. "The HP solution radically simplifies the network with a very flat topology, making it easier to manage and significantly lowering our IT costs. HP FlexFabric delivers the perfect integration between our local and wide area network requirements by intelligently handling all traffic at the same performance."
HP Networking provides a reliable platform for VOO’s voice over IP, mobility and video services. To ensure maximum IT availability, business continuity and disaster recovery, both data centers are equipped with resilient HP switches consolidated into virtualised communities with HP’s innovative Intelligent Resilient Framework(IRF) technology. The entire network is centrally managed with HPIntelligent Management Centre(IMC) software, which unifies the management of network resources and users, easing the workload on VOO’s IT team and lowering operating expenses.
Implemented by HP Partner WIN SA, the HP solution delivers the capacity and performance that VOO needs. At the network core, powerful dual redundantHP 12508multi-service routing switches provide rapid failover for full disaster recovery as well as 100GB capability to manage future growth. Energy-efficientHP 5500Switch Series with the latest traffic prioritisation technologies ensure secure, resilient connectivity, while HP 5900 top-of-rack switches deliver the bandwidth necessary for high-speed communications.
The ongoing efficiency of VOO’s HP network is underpinned by HP Critical Advantage(CA) Service for the next five years. This integrated set of proactive and reactive services helps VOO improve the performance, availability and functional use of its HP technology with rapid problem resolution.
"Video-based communications and ubiquitous mobile devices are taxing legacy network architectures and stifling the ability to innovate and compete," says Gunther Van Audenhove, country manager, HP Networking. "HP Networking delivers fully unified, open standards-based solutions that enable customers like VOO to securely deploy and centrally orchestrate video and mobile-optimized architectures that scale from the datacenter to the network edge."
